Chief Accountant Azerbaijan

We are looking for a skilled and professional Chief Accountant based in Azerbaijan to join our growing international team.

The Chief Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant accounting and tax reporting in accordance with Azerbaijani legislation, while also supporting management and group-level reporting in line with IFRS and internal standards. The role ensures proper documentation, timely submissions to tax and state authorities, and full control over local bookkeeping, payroll, statutory reporting, and audit coordination.

Education & Certification

• University degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• Certified Accountant or equivalent local professional qualification (is a plus)

Experience

• Over 5 years of progressive experience in accounting roles
• At least 2 years in a Chief Accountant or Senior Accountant position in Azerbaijan
• Experience with tax inspections and audits
• Experience in an international company or reporting to foreign shareholders is a plus

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent knowledge of Azerbaijan tax and accounting regulations
• Working knowledge of IFRS or willingness to learn
• Proficiency in 1C or other local accounting systems
• Strong Excel and document management skills
• Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
• High attention to detail and integrity
• Experience with Microsoft Business Central is a plus; willingness to learn is essential

Languages

• Azerbaijani – fluent
• Russian – fluent
• English – intermediate or above (for communication with HQ)

Accounting & Reporting

• Maintain full-cycle accounting in accordance with Azerbaijan National Accounting Standards (AzNAS)
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings
• Prepare and submit all statutory financial reports to tax and regulatory bodies
• Coordinate dual reporting where applicable (AzNAS + IFRS)
• Reconcile local vs. management (IFRS-based) financials and assist in consolidation

Tax Compliance

• Ensure accurate and timely preparation and filing of all tax returns (VAT, CIT, WHT, Payroll taxes, etc.)
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and evaluate their impact on the company
• Communicate with tax authorities, respond to inquiries, and support during audits

Payroll & HR Support

• Ensure timely payroll calculation, accruals, and disbursements
• Manage employment-related tax and social fund calculations
• Coordinate with HR on labor contract compliance and reporting

Cash & Banking

• Control primary documents and payment flows
• Ensure correct and compliant documentation for currency control (inbound and outbound transfers)
• Coordinate with banks and the Treasury team on payments, foreign currency transactions, and repatriation matters

Audit & Internal Controls

• Lead interaction with local external auditors
• Prepare audit documentation and assist with audit queries
• Ensure proper document retention and archiving
• Support internal control procedures and financial compliance
